Stepping into narration has become the life choice that has given me pride, anxiety, and happiness, but it wasn’t what I expected. Don’t let that deter you, believe me, the anxiety I get is far outweighed by the pride & happiness.
It was May 2023, and I looked at my husband and told him I wanted to be a voice actor. My husband, being the chill Pisces he is, was supportive and all for it. I also discussed it with a very good friend of mine, and she, as well, supported it, along with my adult daughters.
No one said “no”, no one said “that’s ridiculous”, nothing negative, complete support.

The next day, Google and I became very close friends. I researched my heart out, finding information here, there, and everywhere. You can safely say I was slightly overwhelmed with information. When I discovered what ACX was, I quickly bookmarked, made an account, and…stared in wild wonder.
What the hell do I do now?
I learned a hell of a lot with that first book.
Since then, with dedication, research, rebalancing my focus, and upgrading everything I have, I finally have a good footing in the narration world to begin learning and developing my style and skills correctly. This isn’t easy, but, it is fun.
Today, March 23rd, I have a sound-treated booth and rode mic, I am FINALLY comfortable (for now) with my settings on my Audacity, and I’m auditioning with some knowledge of what to expect.
The journey to becoming, or, actually, not becoming, growing into your narrating career, has so many ups and downs, but, as I stated earlier, I find the good far, far out-weighs the stressful.
If you’re reading this because you are Stepping into Narration as well, the best place I can start you is Narrators Roadmap. This is a career where you are going to always, ALWAYS be learning.
